While exercising lockdown in the desert of California because of the COVID-19 virus Sandro decided he needed to create a body of work that first would help me heal himself from the pain the situation was inflicting on him and secondly to document feelings he was having about what was going on in the world.
"We all were feeling endangered by everything we came in contact with. We didn’t even know if we could be alone with our own spouses. The mundane chores of life became deterrents of boredom. Inspiration of the project came while walking the desert and seeing how the sun scorched and killed everything."
Leica Store Lisse takes pride in taking the concept "photography" as a whole; beautiful cameras and inspiring art are inseparable. After a few rearrangements of the store we have now created a space on which we are able to showcase art. First up is Sandro Miller with his gripping take on the global pandemic we have all experienced. He has taken these apocalyptic images with a Leica S and the quality truly shines on these prints!!
As a camera store, we often get surprised reactions when we tell our customers that we also publish photography books. Even though people don’t usually suspect it, it really feels like a natural extension from our other products, and more importantly, of our philosophy. We get a lot of satisfaction from the enthusiastic reactions we get from our customers. And it’s a great bonus to now receive a prestigious award for our latest book in collaboration with Sandro Miller. The book, Death in the Desert, has placed first in the professional books category from the respected IPA photo awards. Congratulations to Sandro Miller, it’s great to see something we worked on together receive this recognition!!
