This special edition was created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the American Society of Cinematographers. Designed with directors and cinematographers in mind, it combines the heritage of Leica photography with the language of cinema.
The all-black camera with a gold anodized Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH recalls the aesthetic of Oskar Barnack’s original Ur-Leica, which he first used to test film emulsions for motion picture cameras.
Limited to only 300 pieces of which this edition has got the limited edition number : 231/300 (body : 5555231 and lens : 4755723)
The set includes a Visoflex electronic viewfinder and an M-PL mount adapter, allowing cinematographers to use PL-mount cine lenses and frame shots through the same lenses used for filming. The camera itself features a unique black chrome finish, blacked-out dials, a subtle black-on-black ASC logo, and a diamond-pattern embossed leatherette similar to the Leica SL and Q. The gold lens cap is engraved with the ASC seal.
In addition to its distinctive design, the edition introduces two dedicated Cine Look modes: “ASC Cine Classic” for a traditional 35mm film look and “ASC Contemporary” for modern digital styles. The camera also provides selectable cinematographic frame lines in live view, making it an effective director’s viewfinder.
