Nikon's first Photomic metered finder for the F. Viewfinder includes a built in external Cds cells exposure meter coupled to the lens aperture and shutter speed with a metering sensitivity from EV2-EV17. The power still uses the (unpopular now) mercury cells. The same year, a Fisheye-Nikkor 8mm f/8, Nikon first fisheye lens-type was produced (for F only), another Nikon's first lens-type developed was the PC Nikkor 35mm F3.5 which offers perspective control; the third was the Medical Nikkor 200mm f/5.6 designed for medical and dental close up application. The exposure is automatic when using flash.

1960, the last of the rangefinder model, Nikon S3M was introduced. This unusual model was the only 1/2 frame camera has ever produced by Nikon. A year later in 1961, another unusual camera model was introduced. It doesn't bear with a "Nikon" name, but was designed by Nippon Kogaku and used the same F-mount and supplied with Nikkor lenses. It was called "Nikkorex". It was originally designed as an economical SLR, you can say it was a pre-Nikkormat. Meterless and some of the bodies was even supplied with a fixed lens. 1963, Nikon third zoom lens, the Zoom Nikkor auto 43mm- 86mm f/3.5 was introduced. This lens was supplied as standard to a US military model, the Nikon F KS-80A.
